The Media and Journalism Research Center (MJRC) has published two high-quality reports this year authored by Mundus MAPP students Sydney Martin (CEU-IBEI, 2023-2025) and Nikolas Schäfer (CEU-IBEI, 2022-2024).

Sydney Martin’s report, Control Beyond Code: New MJRC Report Maps Ownership and Finances of AI Companies Used by Journalists, provides valuable insights regarding the transparency concerns and use of fact-checking AI tools, including a case study on content covering the Israel-Hamas war.

Nikolas Schäfer’s report, co-authored with Marius Dragomir, An Analysis of Journalism Projects Financed by the European Union, investigates the increase in EU funding of media and journalism projects, examining which topics and countries are receiving the most grants in addition to how the funds are distributed and spent.

Sydney and Nikolas are both participants in the MJRC’s Young Media Researchers Program, a training and mentorship program that gives aspiring media researchers the opportunity to work alongside experts in the field, conduct a research project, and produce a high-quality report from their findings.
