The Mundus MAPP Consortium and student and alumni community are deeply saddened by the news of the sudden passing away of a former student, Sudish Niroula. Sudish was 29 years old when he died in a motorcycle accident last weekend.
Sudish studied at CEU in 2012-2013 and at IBEI in 2013-2014, and graduated from Mundus MAPP in 2014. After his studies he returned to his home country, Nepal to work for IsraAID providing humanitarian aid at the time of the earthquakes. The next step in his life would have been to start his doctoral program at the University of Tokyo, Japan from September.
He was a much admired and loved community member, the soul of the community, actively participating in student workshops aiming to change the world for a better place and also in all the social gatherings. He had a wonderful smile which infected everyone around him. As his friends and fellow students would compliment him or describe him on facebook, he was handsome, there was “always a mountain with him” (referring to the Nepalese mountains which he loved to hike), and he “packed more living into his too-few years than most of us will manage in lives twice as long”. He will be missed so much by all of us.
We would also like to share the obituary written by one of Sudish’s classmates, Zakarya God, that was published by the Erasmus Mundus Association (EMA) on August 7, 2016:
“This morning our dear EMA member Sudish Niroula at the age of 29 years passed away in the hospital. Yesterday he and a friend on a motorcycle had an accident with a van in Kathmandu, Nepal. He was hospitalised in the intensive care, however, regrettably he did not survive and passed away this morning in the hospital.
Sudish studied the Erasmus Mundus Master Program in Public Policy (Mundus MAPP) 2012-2014 – studying his first year in Budapest at the CEU and the second year in Barcelona at IBEI – and was previously the Mundus MAPP Programme Representative 2014-2015. He was also an active and an amazing member spreading the knowledge of the Erasmus Mundus programmes within and outside the EU. He would also provide information on Erasmus Mundus studies and country housing as well as assist prospective/potential students in writing their application(s).
In his short life, Sudish has always been occupied with improving the situation of people(s) around him and was interested in conflict prevention, humanitarian and development assistance. Before his Erasmus Mundus studies, Sudish started his professional experience as an intern for the Norwegian Refugee Council in Nepal and then continued to work as an Editor / Content Writer for EducateNepal.com, as a Project Officer for Nyayik Sansar (The World – In Justice), as a Programme Officer for Restless Development and as a Freelance Trainer/Facilitator for Youth Time International Movement with the latter allowing him to travel to Rhodes, Delhi, Strasbourg and many other cities.
After his studies and in the immediate aftermath of the earthquake in Nepal, Sudish continued dedicating his time and energy working for IsraAID in Nepal assisting and helping to alleviate the suffering of his Nepalese compatriots. In July, he left IsraAID and was accepted for a Phd programme at Tokyo University where he would start.
Sudish as a person was full of life and fun, a great listener, a reliable person and always ready to help others. He had so many great abilities, two among many are: 1) the ability to forge a friendship within minutes with a total stranger and leave an ever lasting impression behind, and 2) the great ability to pass on his enormous enthusiasm and positivity on others around him. He was a free spirited person who was always trying to bring the best out of everyone around him.
Today we lost an amazing person with a great potential to make this world a better place. We regret his loss and we stand with his family and friends in these sorrowful moments.
