Summer school / Spring school/study visit
Information for applicants:
Spring school/study visit
The spring school/study visit is a joint activity that takes place after
coursework finishes in the first academic year, mandatory for all students
regardless of mobility path. It serves course integration, allowing students
and faculty from the consortium institutions to interact, and strengthens
the students' grounding in contemporary policy practice. It involves a field
trip to relevant organisations (e.g., the EU institutions, selected UN agencies,
national ministries, parliaments, NGOs, think tanks). The location of the
field trip will change from year to year. The location and exact dates will
be communicated to the students during the fall term of the first academic
year. The spring school replaces the summer school component (see below) as
of 2013.
Information for current
students:
Integration between years 1 and 2 is enhanced by a one week long summer school
course, taking place in each year at one of consortium partner institutions.
All Mundus MAPP students are required to take part in the summer course, ensuring
that students taking different study paths at different institutions meet
and exchange views and experiences. With completion of the summer school Mundus
MAPP students earn credits recognised as part of their year 2 requirements
and contributing towards their final degree. Mundus MAPP students will be
required to submit written work for assessment and generally undertake a similar
amount of work as a 4 ECTS course in the second institutions would entail.
Dealing with various aspects of trans-European policy and governance, the curriculum has a different focus year after year, reflecting each of the partner universities' complementary expertise. The summer school is jointly taught by faculty from the participating institutions as well as visiting Erasmus Mundus scholars. The summer school thus also creates opportunities for students, scholars and faculty to interact with one another and in this way generate a sense of cohesion and facilitate the emergence of informal networks within Mundus MAPP as a whole. The summer school will also be open to previous years' Mundus MAPP graduates, thereby acting as a forum and meeting place for alumni and current students and visiting scholars and permanent faculty.
The summer school in 2012 will be organized by IBEI and take place in Barcelona.
Exact dates are to be announced later.
