Admissions:

1) Where do I need to send my application?
You need to submit an online application form. This application facility will enable the online submission of the application form itself as well as all other relevant documentation, including academic records, CV-s and resumes, letters of recommendation, language test score reports and application essays (such as statements of purpose, etc.). Candidates will be requested to mail official copies of their academic records to the CEU Admissions Office only upon acceptance.

2) What is the deadline for applications?
If you wish to be considered for an Erasmus Mundus Category A or an Erasmus Mundus Category B Scholarship, you need to ensure that you submit the on-line application form by January 3, 2013, 24:00 Pacific Standard Time (PST). Your application documents must also contain your language test score report in order to be considered for a scholarship.
If you do not wish to apply for financial aid (because you intend to finance your studies from other sources) you may submit your application until May 6, 2013, 24:00 Pacific Standard Time (PST).

3) How do I apply for an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship?
All eligibible applicants applying by the January 3 deadline will be considered for an Erasmus Mundus Category A or Category B scholarship unless they do not wish to. There is no separate application form to fill in.

4) I come from a country where English is one of the official languages. Am I also required to provide a proof of my English proficiency?
Mundus MAPP does not require a language certificate from applicants from the following countries, provided that they have received a Bachelor's or Master'sdegree taught exclusively in English:

Australia, Botswana, Canada, Gambia, Ghana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Liberia,
Malawi, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda (English-speaking region), South Africa, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, UK, USA and Zambia

Applicants from countries other than these may request a waiver from the English language admissions requirement if they hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree taught exclusively in English from a university or college in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, USA, the Europan Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland.

All other applicants will need to provide evidence of their English language skills with any one ofthe following test scores:

TOEFL (Computer-based; taken on/after January 1, 2011) 237 or above; OR
TOEFL (Paper version; taken on/after January 1, 2011) 580 or above; OR
TOEFL (Internet version; taken on/after January 1, 2011) 92 or above; OR
International English Language Test (IELTS; taken on/after January 1, 2011) 6.5 or above; OR
Cambridge Proficiency Examination (taken on/after January 1, 2008) C or above; OR
Cambridge Advanced English Test (taken on/after January 1, 2008) B or above.

Students taking TOEFL should upload a scan of their score report into their online application and, if admitted, request a hard copy of their results to be sent to the CEU Admissions Office (institution code: 0069.)

5) Is a proof of Spanish proficiency also required for applicants who whish to pursue the study track including IBEI?
No, it is not a requirement. Courses at IBEI will be available in English as well, but those students who speak Spanish too will have a wider variety of courses to choose from.

6) What is an 'official translation' of my degrees and transcripts?
You will find guidelines on this at http://www.ceu.hu/admissions/apply#3.

7) What is an 'official' recommendation letter like?
You will find guidelines on this at http://www.ceu.hu/admissions/apply#2.

8) Can I submit my recommendation letters in hard copy?
Yes. Applicants need to register their referees in the on-line application form, who will be automatically notified via email about this and be instructed on how to proceed with the letters of recommendation.
We strongly enoucrage recommenders to submit their recommendations on-line. Recommenders with poor or no Internet connection or inadequate computer literacy may send their letters of recommendation by regular (postal) mail. In such cases, letters should be placed in an envelope, sealed and signed across the seal, and mailed to:

Henriett Griecs, Mundus MAPP Administrative Coordinator
Central European University
Nador utca 9
1051 Budapest
Hungary

Please note that regardless of the way a recommendation is sent, it must reach us by the application deadline.
Mundus MAPP does not accept letters of recommendation whose contents are known by the candidates concerned.
Mundus MAPP does not consider emailed or faxed recommendations.

9) May I submit an application in the final year of my undergraduate studies?
Yes. Applicants in the process of completing a degree program must submit an interim transcript and, in place of the diploma, a certificate of enrollment confirming their student status and, if possible, stating their expected date of graduation. Applicants having completed their degree program and having yet to receive their diploma must submit a certificate of graduation.

10) I would like to send my application package to Mundus MAPP, but the Embark application system does not allow me to do so without uploading a Bachelor's transcript and diploma. However, I am enrolled in a 5-year university program from which I will graduate with a Master's diploma straight away, so I have no Bachelor's transcript (and degree) to upload. How can I overcome this obstacle?
You should upload your Master's records on the Bachelor's upload pages. This will not disadvantage you in any way.

Academic aspects (changes for the new Mundus MAPP curricululum):

1) Until now Mundus MAPP has been awarding two degrees, and now it will offer only one degree.
That's right. Under its new accreditation, Mundus MAPP will offer one joint degree, MA in Public Policy.

2) Is the course list for 2013-2015 available yet?
An overview of the courses, including all core (mandatory) courses, is available at http://www.mundusmapp.org/studies/studies.htm. The course descriptions (for most of the courses) are available at http://www.mundusmapp.org/studies/curr.htm.

Financial aspects:

1) How much is the tuition fee? How do I pay it?
The tuition fees are 11,000 EUR/academic year, therefore 22,000 EUR in total for the two years. Tuition is paid in two instalments per year and candidates are instructed on how to make a payment to the Mundus MAPP consortium in the letter of acceptance they receive in case they are offered a place in the program.
The tuition fee for Erasmus Mundus scholarship recipients is lower, which, pursuant to the students' authorisation, is automatically deducted from their Erasmus Mundus scholarship.

2) If I am not awarded an Erasmus Mundus scholarship is there alternative funding available at the partner universities?
A limited number of Netherlands Fellowship Program (NFP) scholarships are available for students whose mobility track involves ISS. Applicants interested in this option must submit a separate application for NFP by January 3, 2013.
Students may wish to consider applying to the consortium universities' regular (non-Erasmus Mundus) MA programs as well which may be able to offer other scholarship options. Please note that for these MA programs separate application procedures are applicable.

3) How much is the tuition fee for non-scholarship holders?
For non-scholarship holders the tuition fees are 11,000 EUR/academic year and 22,000 EUR in total for the two years.

4) What other costs should I expect to confirm enrolment?

Erasmus Mundus scholarship recipients will be asked to pay a deposit of 200 EUR to confirm their enrollment. This will be kept as a damage deposit for students starting their studies at CEU, and will be refundable at the end of the first academic year. Students who start their studies in the ISS will get the deposit back upon enrollment. For applicants who accept the scholarship offer and pay the deposit now but in the end do not take up their place in the program the deposit will not be refunded.

Students enrolling in the ISS will be requested to present a financial statement.

5) What other costs should I expect upon enrolment, and how much should I budget for living expenses?
Candidates are advised to consult the webpages of the universities in which they will enrol, in particular:
CEU - http://www.ceu.hu/studentlife/experience/cost-of-living
IBEI - http://www.ibei.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=29&Itemid=27&lang=en
ISS - http://www.iss.nl/prospective_students/fees_and_funding/
YORK -http://www.york.ac.uk/study/study-abroad/visiting/why-york/expenses/

All students should expect to cover the expenses of the Spring Study Visit, in the range of 3-400 EUR, taking place in the Spring Term of year 1.

6) How much is the Erasmus Mundus scholarship?
There are two types of scholarship offered by the European Commission. Both categories of scholarship recipients also receive financial support from the Mundus MAPP universities in the form of partial tuition fee waivers (reduced tuition fees).

Students accepted to Mundus MAPP who DO NOT come from any of the countries listed below, and who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in the countries listed below, are eligible for "Category A" scholarships:

- Member States of the European Union,
- EEA-EFTA States (Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein).

All other students accepted to Mundus MAPP are eligible for "Category B" scholarships, i.e., students who come from one of the countries listed above, or have resided or conducted their main activity in one or several of the countries listed above for more than 12 months in the past 5 years.

Financial conditions

The value of the scholarships is a total of € 48 000 for Category A, and € 20 000 for Category B for the duration of the programme (two academic years).

From this amount the Mundus MAPP consortium will deduct the Mundus MAPP tuition fee on the basis of a written agreement whereby the student authorizes CEU to collect the fee. The payable tuition fees will be:

€ 8,000 per academic year (16,000 total for two years) for Category A scholarship recipients; and
€ 4,000 per academic year (8,000 total for two years) for Category B scholarship recipients.
