Admissions:
1) Where do I need to send my application?
You need to submit an online
application form. This application facility will enable the online submission
of the application form itself as well as all other relevant documentation,
including academic records, CV-s and resumes, letters of recommendation, and
application essays (such as statements of purpose, research proposals, etc.).
Candidates will be requested to mail official copies of their academic records
to the CEU Admissions Office only upon acceptance.
2) What is the deadline for applications?
If you wish to be considered for an Erasmus Mundus Category A scholarship,
you need to ensure that you submit the on-line application form by January
3, 2010. Your application documents must also contain your language test score
report in order to be considered for a scholarship.
If you are interested in applying for a Category B scholarship or you do not
wish to apply for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship (because you intend to finance
your studies from other sources) the deadline is March 16, 2010.
3) How do I apply for an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship?
If you wish to be considered and are eligible for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship
you should indicate this in the on-line application form. There is no separate
application form to fill in.
4) I come from a country where English is one of the
official languages. Am I also required to provide a proof of my English proficiency?
Mundus MAPP does not require a language certificate from applicants from
the following countries, provided that they have received a Bachelor's or
Master'sdegree taught exclusively in English:
Australia, Botswana, Canada, Gambia, Ghana, Ireland, Kenya, Liberia,
Malawi, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda (English-speaking
region), South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, UK, USA and Zambia
Applicants from countries other than these may request a waiver from the English language admissions requirement if they hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree taught exclusively in English from a university or college in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, USA, the Europan Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland.
All other applicants will need to provide evidence of their English language skills with any one ofthe following test scores:
TOEFL (Computer-based; taken on/after March 13, 2008) 237 or above; OR
TOEFL (Paper version; taken on/after March 13, 2008) 580 or above; OR
TOEFL (Internet version; taken on/after March 13, 2008) 92 or above; OR
International English Language Test (IELTS; taken on/after March 13,
2008) 6.5 or above; OR Cambridge Proficiency Examination (taken on/after
March 13, 2005) C or above; OR Cambridge Advanced English Test (taken
on/after March 13, 2005) B or above.
6) Is a proof of Spanish proficiency also required for
applicants who whish to pursue the study track including IBEI?
No, it is not a requirement, however, it would be good for us to see your
knowledge in Spanish in advance. Courses at IBEI will be available in English
as well, but those students who speak Spanish too will have a wider variety
of courses to choose from.
7) What is an 'official translation' of my degrees and
transcripts?
You will find guidelines on this at http://www.ceu.hu/admissions/apply#3.
8) What is an 'official' recommendation letter like?
You will find guidelines on this at http://www.ceu.hu/admissions/apply#2.
9) Can I submit my recommendation letters in hard copy?
Yes. Applicants need to register their referees in the on-line application
form, who will be automatically notified via email about this and be instructed
on how to proceed with the letters of recommendation. They may opt for either
submitting their recommendation on-line or in hard copy. For a hard copy they
have to download a recommendation letter form which they must use for writing
their recommendation. The letter must reach the CEU Admissions Office in a
sealed envelope which is also signed by the referees across the seal. The
hard copies must also reach the CEU Admissions Office by the application deadlines.
10) May I submit an application in the final year of my
undergraduate studies?
Yes. Applicants who are in the process of completing their first degree, instead
of a diploma, must submit an official letter in English from their university,
stating that they are expected to complete their current course of study by
August 1, 2010. Accepted students will be later requested to submit their
diploma.
Financial aspects:
1) How much is the tuition fee? How do I pay it?
The tuition fees are 11,000 EUR/academic year, therefore 22,000 EUR in total
for the two years. Tuition is paid in two instalments per year and candidates
are instructed on how to make a payment to the Mundus MAPP consortium in the
letter of acceptance they receive in case they are offered a place in the
program.
Erasmus Mundus scholarship recipients are also required to pay a tuition fee
which, pursuant to the students' authorisation, is automatically deducted
from their Erasmus Mundus scholarship.
2) If I am not awarded an Erasmus Mundus scholarship
is there alternative funding available at the partner universities?
There is no alternative funding available at the partner universities for
Mundus MAPP. However, students may wish to apply to the consortium universities'
regular MA programs as well. Please note that for these MA programs separate
application procedures are applicable.
3) How much is the tuition fee for non-scholarship holders?
For non-scholarship holders the tuition fees are 11,000 EUR/academic year
and 22,000 EUR in total for the two years.
4) What other costs should I expect upon enrolment, and
how much should I budget for living expenses?
Candidates are advised to consult the webpages of the universities in which
they will enrol, in particular:
CEU - http://www.ceu.hu/studentlife/experience/cost-of-living
IBEI - http://www.ibei.org/web_new/eng/bcn/costVida.asp

YORK - http://www.york.ac.uk/admin/intnat/before/finance/livingexpenses.htm
5) How much is the Erasmus Mundus scholarship?
There are two types of scholarship offered by the European Commission. Both
categories of scholarship recipients also receive financial support from the
Mundus MAPP universities in the form of partial tuition fee waivers (reduced
tuition fees).
Students accepted to Mundus MAPP who DO NOT come from any of the countries
listed below, and who are not residents nor have carried out their
main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over
the last five years in the countries listed below, are eligible for "Category
A" scholarships:
- Member States of the European Union,
- EEA-EFTA States (Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein).
All other students accepted to Mundus MAPP are eligible for "Category
B" scholarships, i.e., students who come from one the countries listed
above, or have resided or conducted their main activity in one of the countries
listed above for more than 12 months in the past 5 years.
Financial conditions
The value of the scholarships is a total of € 48 000 for Category A, and € 20 000 for Category B for the duration of the programme (two academic years).
From this amount the Mundus MAPP consortium will deduct the Mundus MAPP tuition
fee on the basis of a written agreement whereby the student authorizes CEU
to collect the fee. The payable tuition fees will be:
€ 8,000 per academic year (16,000 total for two years) for Category A
scholarship recipients; and
€ 4,000 per academic year (8,000 total for two years) for Category B
scholarship recipients.
